Stoliv is situated on the north-eastern side of the Vrmac hill, opposite Perast. It consists of two parts: the upper village is situated in a chestnut forest at 240 m of altitude. This part of the village has preserved its original rural layout. Today this part of Stoliv has only 15 habitants because most of the people have moved during the 17th and 18th century to the lower town. In the centre of the village there is the Church of St. Ilija. The lower Stoliv was given the rank of maritime town in 1721. Due to the Mediterranean climate, this part of the Bay of Kotor is rich in fruits and flowers, especially the camellia flower for which Stoliv is famous.
